Behaviour therapy recognizes the limits it puts on a child and focuses on how important people and places in the child’s life can be adapted to encourage good behaviour and discourage unwanted behaviour. Its therapy involves teaching children different methods of responding to situations more positively. Parents must help to reinforce this in the child’s day-to-day life.
Our behavioural therapists work with children who demonstrate significantly difficult or challenging behaviour, that is outside the norm for their age. Our early intervention program focuses on enhancing the parents’ ability to identify and respond to the child’s cues and to meet the child’s emotional needs. Such behaviour if not addressed can harm the child’s psychological and emotional health, and adversely affect their relationship with family, friends and society.
Art therapy uses the creative process of art to improve and enhance the physical as well as the emotional wellbeing of the child. Expression through art is a way to help the child feel a sense of normalcy without judgment, while allowing them to show their individual personality and bring attention to their strengths.
With the support of our art therapist, the child is provided a creative tool to confront and work through their emotional and physical pain, increase self-awareness, regain a sense of self, and help express unspoken and often unconscious fears regulating unwanted behaviours.
